Odyssey Charter School

Odyssey Charter School developed Family Writing Workshop sessions to strengthen the literacy connection between home and school. The workshops cover many genres, topics, readings, and writing activities.

The activities from this family writing workshop session focused on the theme of “California Writing,” and represent a segment of the larger workshop series. In these activities, participants considered questions such as: Who am I? Where have I come from? How has my background influenced my perception (and others’ perception) of me as a Californian?

Writing together gives families and our school community strong connections. Both parents and students are eager to share their stories, their work, and as a group they are supportive of creating anthologies of the wonderful writing that emerges from the activities. The most frequently asked question at the end of the workshops is “When can we do this again?”
